Ritual is key

To create a ritual:

Identify an area of your life that needs improvement.  Spend some time with yourself.

Take a piece that relates to it, something solid and malleable.

Spend some time with that object, make it powerful and meaningful.

Turn it into a talisman or a symbol.

Use it to change your life.

In my process and in my life I am a keen practitioner of ritual.  It focuses intent and strengthens resolve.  In my own hands is the power to change my life and the way I interact with people, lying just bellow the level of conscious thought.  I use ritual to pull the resolve forward into my mind, to be reminded of my competence.

I extend an open invitation to participate in a collective ritual of cleansing and honesty.  This will not just be art to look at, it will be art to engage in.  Choose to be playful and participate for fun.  Choose to believe in something and participate to be cleansed.  Choose to be powerful and participate to change.

This is an opportunity to mourn.  Both for our own inadequacies and those of the society around us, this is an opportunity to express anger.  Most importantly this is an opportunity to allow yourself to change.

It is all in your hands.

letmein/letmeout-just enough information

letmein/letmeout is an interactive installation project due for culmination February 2011.  The work is closely linked with the Crescent Arts Centre Youth Theatre Company's "Keys Project" a devised piece that is developing along the themes of public and private space, focusing in on the "sharing too much" phenomena.

I have been working to create a concept that is sympathetic to the participants work and that will also have it's own direction and identity.  Whilst the space is donated, the project is entirely self funded and will require some assistance.

I need keys and confessions.  Any kind of key, any kind of confession.  A little piece of your history and a little.  It can have opened anything, it can be about anything.

Feel free to add your email address to get project updates, invitations to the event and possibly more.

Send keys and confessions

Too much information

I want you to know everything about me because that is how I can record my existence
I want you to know everything about me because I am lonely
I want you to know everything about me because it will bring us closer
I want you to know everything about me because it makes me feel important
I want you to know everything about me because it is all I have
I want you to know everything about me because I am bored
I want you to know everything about me because I am needy
I want you to know everything about me because I am lost
I want you to know everything about me because it is the done thing

I have completed my profile
I have fulfilled
I have conformed
I have created another self
I have created a public face

Confessions

It's all about release.  Letting it out.  A cleansing.  Handing it on, sharing it.  It gains us nothing but still lifts us.  It is all about letting go.

I want you to share with me, I want you to open yourself up to me.  I will be silent, I will try not to judge.  I will add your truth to those of others and build a memorial to you all with thanks.  Each truth with a key, an invitation.  A sacred space of honesty and cleansing.

Tell me the truth, confess.

What am I doing?

Keys and confessions.  Secrets locked away.  Not original concepts, not anything new.  Enchanting and mysterious, a hundred, two hundred?  Lonely and reminiscent.  Why?

The key to the soul.  Locking our doors behind us.  Keeping them out.  Keeping him in.  Keeping us safe and trapped.  Lock ourselves away from harm and tear each other apart in our living rooms.  The key is a symbol of security, of civilisation, of property and place.  The key to my heart, the key to the problem.  Disembodied from their locks, communicating.

More on why keys and confessions to follow.....
